Malawi’s Agriculture Ministry plans to award Renaissance Agriculture and Food Systems a 4.59 billion kwacha contract to supply 765 tonnes of maize seed. The company, recently acquired by Ghana’s Legacy Crop Improvement Centre, won the relevant lot under the 2026-2027 farm subsidy programme, Nyasa Times reports.

Malawi’s Ministry of Agriculture plans to award Renaissance Agriculture and Food Systems a 4.59 billion kwacha contract to supply 765 tonnes of maize seed under the 2026-2027 Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP). The company won Lot 2 of the tender, according to the ministry’s announcement reported by Nyasa Times.

Renaissance was recently acquired by Ghanaian company Legacy Crop Improvement Centre. The FISP provides smallholder farmers with subsidised seed and fertiliser to support food production. Unsuccessful bidders can challenge the proposed award until 31 October 2026, in accordance with the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act.

The proposed contract is part of the 2026-2027 farm subsidy programme launched by Malawi in September. The government subsequently announced an allocation of 4.59 billion kwacha for maize seed on 24 October.
