Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo and his daughter Iyabo Obasanjo exchanged jokes at a public symposium in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The moment came during a discussion on artificial intelligence and national development, held as part of the Odun Omo Olowu festival, the Daily Trust reports.

Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo joked with his daughter, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, at a symposium on Friday evening in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Daily Trust reports. She had just finished her greetings by mentioning her father, “whom I don’t know”, prompting laughter from the audience. Obasanjo then quipped that she did not know her father and that “the abuse of artificial intelligence has already begun”.

The event, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library auditorium, focused on using artificial intelligence to solve local problems and accelerate national development. Iyabo Obasanjo, a former senator and former regional health commissioner, took part in the panel. Her father also criticised what he described as blind reliance on economic prescriptions from young, foreign-trained experts, including his daughter, a graduate of an Ivy League university.

The event was organised by the Ajibosin Platform, an annual symposium held as part of the Odun Omo Olowu festival celebrations. Obasanjo said he knew little about artificial intelligence and warned that an uncontrolled tool could be misused.
