Nigeria’s House of Representatives is calling for a transparent framework for imports of electric and compressed natural gas vehicles, with incentives linked to local maintenance, training and refuelling infrastructure. The proposal aims to ensure importers can provide technical support for their vehicles, Punch reports.
Nigeria’s House of Representatives has called for a transparent regulatory framework for importing electric vehicles, compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and related equipment. It wants public incentives, including customs and tax exemptions, to be tied to measurable investment in local maintenance, technical training and charging or refuelling infrastructure, according to Punch.
The proposal was introduced on Tuesday 27 October by Ademorin Kuye, a lawmaker from Lagos. It provides for the National Automotive Design and Development Council to work with the Bureau of Public Procurement, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, the customs service and other agencies to set objective criteria for authorising importers, according to Punch.
