Michael Carrick says he is not surprised to remain Manchester United manager despite eight matches without a win and criticism of the team. Ahead of the trip to Chelsea, he says he wants to continue his work and maintains his support for captain Bruno Fernandes, according to Citizen Digital.
Michael Carrick says he does not need public assurances about his future at Manchester United, where he manages in the English Premier League. The 45-year-old coach said he wanted to continue his work despite a run of eight matches without a win and speculation about his position, Citizen Digital reports.
Carrick also renewed his confidence in captain Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder who was left on the bench during the 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth. He explained that the decision met the needs of that match and assured that Fernandes remained fully committed to the club, according to Citizen Digital.
Manchester United have won only two of their 12 matches in all competitions this season. With seven points from eight league games, the club are experiencing their worst start to a league season in 40 years and are only one point clear of the relegation zone, Citizen Digital reports.
Carrick’s position came after the coach was kept on on 27 October, the day after the defeat by Bournemouth, followed by confirmation that he would be in the dugout against Chelsea. On 29 October, Bruno Fernandes remained Manchester United captain, while Gary Neville called for Carrick to leave on 30 October.
