Liverpool’s Spanish manager, Andoni Iraola, says his team’s performances can fuel supporters’ title hopes after five straight wins in all competitions. Before Sunday’s Premier League match against Arsenal, he urged improvement and said it was too early to draw conclusions from the table, according to remarks reported by Citizen Digital.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has urged people not to draw conclusions about the Premier League title race at this stage of the season, despite hopes among the club’s supporters, Citizen Digital reports. Ahead of Sunday’s match against Arsenal, he recalled that it is still October and that the team must improve.
A victory at Anfield would bring Liverpool to within three points of Arsenal, who are level at the top of the table with Manchester City. Liverpool have won five consecutive matches in all competitions, but Iraola points out that only two of those victories came in the league. He believes his team still has to collect points to close the gap.
Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 last weekend before being eliminated from the League Cup on penalties by Fleetwood, a fourth-tier club. Iraola nevertheless described the Gunners as a team of great quality and said Liverpool would have to be ready to face a demanding challenge.
The match comes as Liverpool seek to extend their revival at Anfield after three home victories, reported on 30 October.
