Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama wants to mobilise additional funding from companies to strengthen the Media Development Fund, after including 10 million cedis in seed funding in the 2027 national budget. He named KGL and the Bank of Ghana among the institutions he wants to approach, according to 3News.
The fund is intended to finance in particular journalists' social protection, professional training, investigative journalism, digital literacy and safety training. Mahama also asked experienced editors to train young journalists, particularly in analysing public accounts and using that data in investigations, 3News reports.
Mahama said the government would continue discussions with the Ghana Journalists Association and other stakeholders to turn this allocation into concrete support, while preserving the media's editorial independence. The reactivation of the fund had been announced by the president at the Ghana Journalists Association Media Awards in 2025, according to 3News.}

Detonations were heard in the Saudi capital after an early warning was triggered.
Buildings were hit, but the Saudi authorities attributed the damage to debris from the interception. The launches follow Saturday's announcement of the interception of two ballistic missiles directed at the Mecca and Medina regions, according to La Nouvelle Tribune.
The Houthis had already fired a first missile towards Riyadh on 4 November 2017, a device that was intercepted near King Khalid International Airport, La Nouvelle Tribune recalls. The Saudi capital has been targeted by the Yemeni movement for several years."}
