Liberia's main opposition party, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has warned that it will contest any manipulation of the 2029 presidential election and intends to defend the victory of its leader, former president George Manneh Weah, at its Martyrs' Day commemoration on Saturday 7 November 2026 in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County, according to The Liberian Investigator.
Giving the keynote address, former government official Paulita C.C. Wie accused the ruling Unity Party of failing to improve Liberians' living conditions and denounced the alleged diversion of $1.2 billion in public resources for the benefit of government officials. "We will no longer put our hands on the Bible in 2029, we will return fire for fire," she said.
The CDC's national chairman, lawyer Janga A. Kowo, called for independent investigations into political violence and the unsolved killings of supporters, citing the 7 November 2011 clash between security forces and CDC supporters outside the party headquarters in Monrovia, which left people dead and injured.
