Rehabilitation of the A2 road between Moshoeshoe I International Airport and the Mafeteng traffic circle has begun in Lesotho under Sinohydro Corporation Limited. The project is expected to facilitate trade, improve travel and create jobs, according to The Reporter.

Work has begun on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the A2 road between the Moshoeshoe I International Airport turn-off and the Mafeteng traffic circle in Lesotho. The project is being carried out by Sinohydro Corporation Limited, The Reporter said after the launch ceremony held on Monday in Mafeteng.

The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane, said the road was intended to facilitate the movement of people and goods, support trade and create jobs for Basotho. The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Matjato Moteane, asked Sinohydro to guarantee the quality and durability of the work, involve local communities and prioritise resources available in the country, according to The Reporter.

The rehabilitation is notably intended to remove potholes that make travel difficult and improve connectivity in Mafeteng district, said Linehella Nts’ere, director-general of the Roads Directorate. The announcement comes after the launch, on 25 October, of the construction of a bridge at Tebellong, another infrastructure project under way in Lesotho.
