Sene Bacai Cassamá, leader of Guinea-Bissau’s Socialist Workers’ Party, is calling for simultaneous elections to choose the president and government within six months. He also criticised the exclusion of parties from ECOWAS consultations and called for a swift return to constitutional order, according to O Democrata.
Sene Bacai Cassamá, president of the Socialist Workers’ Party of Guinea-Bissau (PSTGB), is calling for simultaneous elections to choose the president and government within six months. He made the demand on Wednesday 28 October in Bissau, while presenting a manifesto of solidarity to the Brazilian embassy, reports O Democrata.
Cassamá criticised the mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), saying that excluding several parties from consultations with national stakeholders did not respect democratic principles. He also called on the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) to exert pressure for a return to constitutional order and denounced restrictions on political freedoms.
The PSTGB leader also said that assistants in public schools and other state institutions had not received the wages owed to them for the 2025-2026 school year. According to him, these delays are affecting families’ expenditure and their children’s schooling.
His demand comes after Senegal negotiated a new election date in Guinea-Bissau, according to information published on 25 October about the electoral discussions led by Dakar.
