Guinea-Bissau’s Prime Minister Ilídio Vieira Té oversaw the handover of 4,000 school kits for vulnerable children, donated by the West African Development Bank. He called for strict monitoring of distribution to prevent the supplies being resold, ANG reports.

The transitional government of Guinea-Bissau distributed 4,000 school kits to vulnerable children at a ceremony chaired by Prime Minister Ilídio Vieira Té, according to the ANG news agency. The kits, donated by the West African Development Bank (BOAD), include bags, exercise books, books and pencils.

Ilídio Vieira Té asked the education minister to ensure that the supplies reached children from families unable to buy them. He warned against their resale at Bandim market and announced that distribution would be monitored by a commission including representatives of the judicial police and the public prosecutor’s office.

The prime minister said that 15% of the state budget for 2027 should be allocated to the Ministry of Education. He also announced the planned delivery of 20,000 school desks, to be distributed among schools with the greatest needs, as well as the provision of machines to shell cashew nuts and develop their processing locally.

The distribution comes a few days after the prime minister defended a pact to restore democratic order, on 26 October 2026.
