Guinea-Bissau's Council of Ministers has decided to name Mansabá's main avenue after former transitional president Manuel Serifo Nhamadjo. José Carlos Macedo Monteiro, director-general of the Migration and Borders Services, welcomed the tribute as recognition for the town, according to ANG.
The Government of Guinea-Bissau approved on 27 October a proposal to name the main thoroughfare of Mansabá, in the Oio region in the north of the country, Manuel Serifo Nhamadjo Avenue. The Council of Ministers adopted the proposal in tribute to the former transitional president, according to the Bissau-Guinean news agency ANG.
José Carlos Macedo Monteiro, director-general of the Migration and Borders Services and a native of Mansabá, welcomed the decision. He recalled that Manuel Serifo Nhamadjo had held several public positions, including those of MP and transitional president, and had helped build schools in localities in the sector.
Macedo Monteiro also highlighted Nhamadjo's support for the Mansabá football club. He described the naming of the road as recognition of the former leader, while saying that his contributions to the region deserved greater recognition.
