Former Kenyan deputy president Rigathi Gachagua calls on William Ruto’s allies to stop trying to bring Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper party, into the government. He says Kalonzo will remain in the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election, according to Tuko.

Former Kenyan deputy president Rigathi Gachagua says Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper party, will not join President William Ruto’s government before the 2027 general election. He called on Ruto’s allies to abandon their efforts to attract the opposition figure, during a religious service in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, Tuko reports.

Gachagua says officials from Kenya Kwanza, the presidential coalition, are offering Kalonzo Musyoka the position of running mate for the 2027 election. He describes the Wiper leader as a reliable politician who will not abandon the opposition for such a promise, and has appointed himself as his family intermediary for any discussions with him.

The position comes after Kalonzo Musyoka called for Kenya’s opposition to unite for 2027 on 25 October, followed by a promise of a single candidate against Ruto announced on 30 October. It also follows the UDA’s invitation on 1 November to join William Ruto.
