Gabon has obtained a donation of 300 million yuan (about $42 million) from China and nine cooperation agreements, including the modernisation of the SOGARA refinery and the development of the Belinga railway, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema announced on his return from Beijing on Sunday 8 November 2026, according to Alwihda Info.
The texts were signed at the end of a five-day state visit to Beijing and Shanghai: six memorandums in the Chinese capital and three protocols in the port city. The two countries raised their relations to the level of a "community of shared future". SOGARA is Gabon's state refinery in Port-Gentil, whose refining capacity Gabon plans to triple by 2030; Belinga is an iron deposit in the north-east of the country, whose exploitation requires the construction of an evacuation railway.
The head of state said the government would monitor the agreements: each project must have a designated official in charge and a precise timetable, with progress regularly reported to Gabonians.
This announcement closes a sequence opened by the signing, on 6 November, of six cooperation agreements in Beijing, where Oligui Nguema had already sought Chinese investment in housing and manganese.
