The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into fake bomb alerts targeting aircraft flying over France, to identify those responsible and establish any possible links with foreign powers. The alerts have also affected several European countries, according to the prosecutor’s office cited by AFP.
The Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation on Saturday 7 November into fake bomb alerts targeting aircraft flying over French territory, notably to investigate any possible links between those responsible and “foreign powers”, the prosecutor’s office said, quoted by AFP.
The investigation concerns the authors of emails containing false information intended to make people believe that aircraft had been dangerously destroyed, as well as their possible links with foreign powers, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office. The alerts have also affected several other European countries, reports AFP.
The investigation follows a series of fake alerts targeting flights in Europe, including one alert that disrupted a Lisbon-Rome flight and 32 alerts affecting 12 airlines over four days, according to information previously published by L’essentiel.
