The Scientific Committee of the Casablanca Stock Exchange indices has provisionally restored the previous free-float and cap factors used to calculate the MASI. The measure follows a revision that reduced Managem’s weighting from 10.55% to 6.86%, without announcing the mining group’s return to trading, according to Le Matin.

The Scientific Committee of the Casablanca Stock Exchange indices has provisionally decided to restore the free-float and cap factors applied to the MASI before the annual revision of 29 October 2026, according to Le Matin. The decision was taken at a meeting held on 30 October to stabilise the calculation method for Casablanca’s benchmark index.

The free-float factor for Managem, a mining group listed in Casablanca, had been reduced from 15% to 10%, mechanically bringing the company’s weighting in the MASI down from nearly 10.55% to 6.86%. This change led investors replicating the index to adjust their portfolios and contributed to selling pressure on the stock, whose trading was subsequently suspended after a 10% fall, Le Matin reports.

The committee plans to overhaul the MASI rules within one month. The work will cover the inclusion of new listed companies, the calculation of free float, the revision of free-float and cap factors, the handling of exceptional situations, and the timeframe for publishing changes before they take effect.

The decision comes after the suspension of trading in Managem, announced on 30 October. It does not constitute an announcement that trading in the stock will resume, according to Le Matin.
