Benin Electricity Distribution Company, a Nigerian electricity distributor, will increase the salaries of all its employees from 1 December after an agreement with two recognised unions. Negotiations, launched in March, concluded on 6 November, according to BEDC management cited by P.M. News.

Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), an electricity distribution company operating in Nigeria, has reached an agreement providing for a salary increase for all its employees from 1 December. The agreement was reached on 6 November with the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), according to a management statement published on Sunday in Benin and reported by P.M. News.

Negotiations began in March and were led by BEDC's acting managing director, Jonathan Lawani. Management said the employees' recent strike could have been avoided, arguing that it had led to revenue losses, damage to the company's image and difficulties for consumers, according to P.M. News.

Jonathan Lawani also said that the operational expenditure framework approved for BEDC had remained essentially unchanged since 2013 despite rising costs. Access to the full allocation depends on collection performance thresholds, while shortfalls result in reduced allocations, he explained.
