A joint brigade bringing together agents from Kinshasa, the National Road Safety Prevention Commission and the National Service will be deployed from 9 November to regulate traffic and reduce congestion. Coordinated by the Congolese National Police, it will operate notably on major roads and expressways to the airport, according to the Congolese ministries concerned.

The joint brigade tasked with regulating traffic in Kinshasa will notably enforce the ban on buses, type 207 public transport vehicles, lorries, motorbikes, tricycles and taxis using the expressways leading to the airport, according to a joint statement from the Congolese ministries of the Interior and Transport dated 7 November 2026.

The team will also operate on major boulevards, the capital's main roads, as well as traffic blackspots and areas of heavy congestion. It will comprise agents from the City of Kinshasa, the National Road Safety Prevention Commission (CNPR) and the National Service, under the coordination of the Congolese National Police, according to the two ministries. Firm measures are announced against offenders.

The system is due to become operational on 9 November 2026. It is part of measures considered at the 96th meeting of the Council of Ministers on 14 August 2026 to draw up a special road traffic and back-to-school security plan, according to the statement. The brigade is being established as road blockades in Kinshasa are also due to resume on 9 November.
