Baowu Resources, a Chinese company involved in the Simandou mining project in Guinea, published a thematic ESG report on the project's sustainability in Shanghai on 6 November. The publication took place on the sidelines of the ninth China International Import Expo, in the presence of Guinea's Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Fassou Théa, according to a Baowu Resources statement received by Le Soleil.
Presented as the first public ESG document dedicated to Simandou, the report links mining development, environmental protection and the strengthening of local capacities. Baowu Resources chairman Cao Zhifu reaffirmed the company's willingness to work with the various stakeholders to advance the project's sustainable development, according to the same statement.
Minister Fassou Théa said that Simandou was now more than a mining project and offered Guinea prospects for job creation, infrastructure development and improved living conditions, according to the statement. The report also highlights partnership, progress and prosperity as the pillars of its approach.
The publication comes after projections that Simandou could bring Guinea $2.5 billion in 2040, published on 21 October 2026.
