At least 25 people, including women and children, were killed on Friday in an attack on Binnari, a locality in the Karim-Lamido local government area of Taraba State, Nigeria. Motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire in the village shortly after Friday prayers, while the market was busy, according to Nigerian media outlet Aminiya, which cited residents and a community leader.

The attackers reportedly arrived on around 50 motorcycles, with two armed men on each, before blocking access to the locality. They also looted shops, taking money, food, fuel and new motorcycles, according to residents cited by Aminiya.

Community leader Tanko Andami called on the governor of Taraba and security forces to strengthen their presence in the Karim-Lamido area. He said that bandits control several localities along the borders between Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states, and that a funeral ceremony was due to be held on Saturday morning.
