Suspected armed men killed several residents of Binnari in Nigeria’s Taraba State before burning houses and destroying food supplies. The attack prompted residents to flee and several people went missing, according to local sources quoted by Daily Post.
Residents were killed and houses set alight on Friday 23 October in an attack attributed to suspected bandits against the Binnari community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State, Nigeria. Residents quoted by Daily Post said the attackers had reportedly come from neighbouring Plateau State and had also destroyed food reserves worth several million naira.
The attack prompted many residents to flee to neighbouring communities, while several people are missing, according to local sources quoted by Daily Post. Residents said they had issued calls for help, but security forces reportedly arrived too late to prevent the killings and destruction.
The Binnari community, located on the border with Plateau State, has faced suspected banditry, kidnappings and reprisal attacks for several months. Tijo Kenneth Mingeh, Accord party candidate for the federal constituency of Ardo-Kola, Karim Lamido and Lau, called for coordinated security operations, stronger intelligence-gathering and assistance for displaced families.
The attack comes amid recurring violence in neighbouring Plateau State, already discussed in a previous article on the killings in Plateau State.
