The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Nigerian vice-president Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of preparing a disinformation campaign against the launch of the APC’s presidential campaign in Kaduna. It accuses them of seeking to circulate artificial intelligence-generated fake videos, forged documents and false information, according to a statement by its spokesperson Dele Alake, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, cited by Punch.
The accusation comes as a letter attributed to Kaduna Governor Uba Sani circulates, claiming that the state government had released 2.3 trillion naira to host the rally. The APC Campaign Council also disputed images showing a security vehicle near an electoral billboard belonging to the party, presented online as proof of special protection for the event, Punch reports.
The APC’s campaign launch rally for the 2027 presidential election was scheduled for Saturday 24 October at 10am in Kaduna. It follows the announcement of Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign launch in Kaduna, amid several recent statements by Atiku Abubakar against the Nigerian president.
