Algerian authorities seized nearly 210,000 ecstasy tablets, weighing about 100 kilograms, concealed in a car at the port of Algiers after it arrived by boat from Marseille. Two people were arrested, according to the General Directorate of National Security, which said the operation was prepared using intelligence gathered beforehand.

Algerian police seized nearly 210,000 ecstasy tablets, weighing about 100 kilograms, from a foreign-registered vehicle that arrived at the port of Algiers from Marseille. A man and a woman were arrested, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The consignment, concealed in cavities in the car, is valued at nearly 74 billion centimes by the DGSN. The Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS), in coordination with the competent prosecutor’s office, recovered a second vehicle and identified several suspected network members, including suppliers based in France and a Moroccan national.

The seizure follows the interception of 69 kg of cocaine in Tamanrasset, announced by Algerian police on 31 October. It is part of a series of anti-drug operations, including one that led to the arrest of ten suspects in a case involving 2.4 million psychotropic tablets, featured in the investigation into psychotropic tablet trafficking.
