Algeria's Djen Djen port shipped 50,000 tonnes of cold direct reduced iron to Hansaport port in Hamburg for MED International Holding SPA. Loading began on 2 November and reached 18,975 tonnes in less than 24 hours on 5 November, according to the port company.
Djen Djen port, in Algeria's Jijel wilaya, shipped 50,000 tonnes of cold direct reduced iron (C-DRI) to Hansaport port in Hamburg, Germany, on behalf of MED International Holding SPA, according to a statement by the port company published on Friday.
Loading aboard the BULK PRUDENCE began on 2 November. The operation reached a rate of 18,975 tonnes loaded in less than 24 hours on 5 November, according to the port company, which attributed the pace to coordination among the parties involved, the logistical resources deployed and the port's operational availability.
The port company described the shipment as an illustration of Djen Djen's capacity to handle large cargoes intended for export within controlled timeframes. The operation is part of Algeria's exports of steel products to foreign markets, according to Algérie Eco.
The shipment comes after Algeria's export of a non-hydrocarbon cargo to the United States, announced on 27 September, and after the signing on 12 October of an agreement between Algeria's SNRV and BK Investment for the recycling of steel waste. Béjaïa port had also unloaded 15,153.60 tonnes of maize on 28 October, according to previous publications.
