France is providing €100 million to modernise and adapt 11 Moroccan ports to climate change, from Nador to Dakhla. The agreement was signed between the National Ports Agency (ANP), the Moroccan body responsible for port management, and the French Development Agency (AFD), according to a statement from the French embassy in Morocco.
The programme also includes French technical expertise for the various components of the project, whose definition and financing are mainly the responsibility of Morocco. The works will include rehabilitating and protecting structures against climate hazards to improve the safety of fishermen and sailors.
The financing is part of the programme to modernise and green Moroccan ports, which notably covers infrastructure in the southern provinces. The agreement follows the allocation of €100 million by AFD to Morocco, announced on 3 November.
