The Uganda Tourism Board has partnered with the Confederation of African Football to promote the country as a destination to AFCON 2027 visitors. The tournament, hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027, is expected to give Uganda international tourism visibility, according to officials present at the announcement in Kampala.
Uganda has secured the 2027 AFCON destination sponsorship rights through an agreement between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the organisation responsible for promoting Ugandan tourism. The partnership will enable the country to be presented to supporters, teams, officials and international media expected for the tournament, according to The Independent.
The “Explore Uganda – The Pearl of Africa” brand will appear in competition campaigns on television and digital platforms and in stadiums. The promotion will highlight the country’s wildlife, cultural heritage and hospitality, with the aim of encouraging visitors to discover Uganda beyond the matches.
AFCON 2027 will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027. CAF Secretary General Samson Adamu said the tournament would give East Africa a potential audience of more than three billion television viewers. Juliana Kagwa, UTB chief executive officer, described the competition as Uganda’s biggest tourism promotion opportunity in a generation, according to The Independent.
Tourism cooperation between the host countries is part of preparations for, among other things, tourism training exchanges between Uganda and Kenya, announced on 31 October.
