The two people suspected of contracting Ebola in Nigeria’s Adamawa State tested negative after two rounds of tests, according to Vanguard, Premium Times, ThisDay and Sowetan. They were a 34-year-old pilot and his doctor wife, isolated in Yola; the only confirmed case in Nigeria remained that of a traveller who returned from Uganda to Abuja.
The authorities isolated the two people while identifying and tracing their contacts and conducting tests, according to Sowetan. The report says Nigeria had confirmed its first Ebola case in more than a decade the previous week, in a Swiss woman who had returned from Uganda to Abuja. She and her husband were evacuated to Switzerland on Monday.
Sowetan reports that the outbreak in Africa is centred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where more than 5,000 people have died since it began in May. Kenya and Uganda have also reported cases. The Bundibugyo strain, involved in the outbreak in the DRC, has no approved treatment or vaccine, according to the report.
