Donald Trump has proposed Ultimate Fighting Championship chief Dana White as White House press secretary and wants six current or former UFC champions to join him. The US president cited Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje and Amanda Nunes, among others, according to SABCnews.com.
US President Donald Trump asked Dana White, chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), to bring six current or former champions from the organisation to work with him at the White House, according to SABC News. He cited Americans Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier and Kayla Harrison, Russian fighters from Dagestan Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, as well as Brazilian-born Amanda Nunes, who became a US citizen.
Trump wants Dana White to become White House press secretary and proposed that the fighters accompany him as assistants. White said on Saturday, at a press conference in London after a boxing event, that he would meet Trump at the White House on Monday, SABC News reports.
The White House press secretary position has been vacant since Katie Zacharia's departure, after her tenure lasted less than a week. She had succeeded Karoline Leavitt, who left at the end of August. Trump and White have known each other since the early 2000s, when Trump's Taj Mahal casino hosted UFC events. The UFC chief later publicly supported Trump's presidential campaign in 2016, according to SABC News.
