The multi-agency task force in Kano State, northern Nigeria, seized about 3.18 million pregabalin capsules in Sabon Gari, Kano, and arrested a 34-year-old man, Gregory Ogbuji. The operation followed information from the public, according to Lamara Garba, secretary of the agency’s media committee.

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking seized about 3.18 million suspected pregabalin capsules in Sabon Gari, in the Fagge local government area, and arrested a 34-year-old man, Gregory Ogbuji, according to Lamara Garba, secretary of the Task Force’s media and communications committee, as quoted by Leadership.

The operation was carried out less than 24 hours after Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf commissioned the Rapid Response Squad. It was triggered by information submitted through a reporting platform linked to the Task Force’s call centre, according to Garba. Gregory Ogbuji was charged under Section 249 of the Penal Code, while another suspect allegedly linked to the operation is being sought.

The chairman of the Task Force, Muhuyi Magaji, said about eight out of 10 anti-drug operations in Kano State involved people dependent on or using pregabalin. He called on residents to provide information about suspected drug trafficking and other criminal activities through the reporting platforms and call centre, Leadership reports.

The operation comes after the arrest on 6 November 2026 of a suspected terrorist in Kaduna by the Nigerian army, reported in the article on the arrest.
