Ria Ledwaba, former vice-president of the South African Football Association, faces the seizure and sale of her assets to recover more than R8.3 million in unpaid taxes. The South African tax authority has given her 10 working days to pay or propose an arrangement, according to TimesLIVE.
The South African tax authority has given Ria Ledwaba, former vice-president of the South African Football Association, 10 working days to settle her tax debt of more than R8.3 million or propose another arrangement, according to the Sunday Times.
Ria Ledwaba's accountant, Mahier Tayob, said he was preparing an application to the South African Revenue Service (Sars), South Africa's tax authority, for a compromise under section 200 and a suspension of payment. He said objection procedures had been exhausted and that no appeal was still active.
The demand, dated 7 October and filed with the court on 2 November, provides that a civil judgment could pave the way for a warrant allowing a sheriff to seize and sell Ria Ledwaba's assets. The proceedings have not yet resulted in a judgment or seizure, according to the Sunday Times.
Sars also says taxpayers unable to settle their debt in full can request a payment plan or, where they dispute the amount claimed, seek a suspension of the debt pending the outcome of the proceedings, according to the Sunday Times.
