Julius Malema refuses to leave South Africa's EFF leadership

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, rejects calls for his resignation and says he will not leave the party's leadership. He accuses his critics of seeking to weaken the organisation ahead of the 2026 local elections, according to the Zambian Observer.

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), refuses to leave the leadership of the South African party despite calls for his resignation. He said those who want to see him leave will first have to “kill him”, reports the Zambian Observer.

Julius Malema accuses his internal opponents of seeking to destroy the EFF rather than resolve its difficulties. His comments come as the party faces tensions over its leadership and questions over its electoral results ahead of the 2026 local elections, according to the Zambian Observer.

Julius Malema also attributed the EFF's electoral losses to the ANC and described the party's decline as a setback in statements reported on 7 November.
