A pothole on the R102 near Verulam in South Africa damaged at least 18 vehicles in two days, according to accounts gathered by IOL. Local residents are calling for urgent repairs or warning signs, saying the obstacle is particularly dangerous at night.

At least 12 vehicles were damaged after hitting a pothole on the R102 in the Verulam area of South Africa, according to IOL. Among the motorists concerned is Annie Barath, a 46-year-old baker whose tyre burst as she was driving to Phoenix after voting in Everest Heights.

Barath explained that she had swerved to avoid a truck that had drifted into her lane before hitting the pothole. She said she refused to stop immediately on the roadside for fear for her safety and eventually received help from a motorist. Two other damaged vehicles were also stopped nearby, according to her account reported by IOL.

Another motorist, Rishaad Ismail, who uses the R102 daily to deliver fuel, also damaged his vehicle by hitting the pothole. He said he changed his tyre himself, for fear of being robbed or carjacked if he accepted help from strangers, according to IOL.
