A South African family that has lived in Australia for two and a half years is preparing to return to South Africa after their children struggled to find their place there. Roxy, the mother, said she made the decision despite her attachment to Melbourne and the life she had rebuilt there, according to IOL.
The family had left South Africa in the hope of offering the children better opportunities, greater safety and a better quality of life. Roxy said she had also benefited in Australia from rebuilding her career, greater financial freedom and a lifestyle she enjoyed, but believes her children's sense of belonging now weighs more heavily in her decision, IOL reports.
For her, the return means giving up some of the comfort and prospects built in Australia. Roxy also said she was apprehensive about the difficulties the family would face in South Africa, including crime, security concerns and infrastructure problems, according to IOL.
