The project is intended to reflect changing Moroccan social norms, while political reservations remain strong, according to RFI and sociologist Mehdi Alioua.
Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi presented parliamentarians with details of the measures the government wants to include in the reform of the Moroccan family code, known as the Moudawana, according to RFI. The process is being led by the government headed by Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri.
The reform comes as political positions on family issues remain divergent and Moroccan social practices are evolving, according to RFI. Sociologist Mehdi Alioua, an associate professor at the International University of Rabat, was also questioned about expected changes to the family code.
