Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi explains why Olympique de Marseille midfielder Amine Harit was left out of the squad for two matches against Niger. He cites competition, preparing for the future and choosing promising young players, according to Afrik-Foot.
Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi explained the absence of 29-year-old Olympique de Marseille attacking midfielder Amine Harit by citing competition and his desire to bring more young players into the squad. Harit, who has scored three goals and provided one assist in the league for OM, was not selected for the two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Niger on 13 and 17 November, according to Afrik-Foot.
Ouahbi notably cited Gessime Yassine and Ayoub Oufkir, who was called up for the first time, among the players to whom he wants to give more continuity. Questioned three times during his press conference, the coach also said he wanted to accelerate the renewal of the squad ahead of the next Africa Cup of Nations, according to Afrik-Foot. The decision comes after the publication of the list of 26 Moroccans called up against Niger, which does not include Harit.
The former Nantes player has not been selected for nearly two years. Moroccan supporters have challenged the decision, notably by comparing his situation with that of Amine Sbaï, who was retained despite having less exposure to top-level European football, Afrik-Foot reports.
