Morocco backed four priorities to strengthen the review mechanism of the UN Convention against Corruption, including the quality of assessments and transparency. Moroccan ambassador Azzeddine Farhane presented these priorities on Friday in Vienna after the session's documents were adopted, according to Libe Maroc.

Morocco reaffirmed on Friday in Vienna its support for strengthening the mechanism for reviewing implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, around four priorities: the quality of reviews, transparency, inclusiveness and the effective implementation of all provisions. Azzeddine Farhane, Morocco's ambassador and permanent representative in Vienna, presented these priorities after the adoption of the documents submitted to the extraordinary session of the Conference of the States Parties to the convention, according to Libération.

Azzeddine Farhane said the reviews must enable states to identify their strengths and weaknesses, better understand obstacles to implementing the convention and draw practical recommendations from them to support reforms and improve institutions. He also advocated greater transparency in review processes, with relevant information and documents made available while respecting national legislation and confidentiality.

The Moroccan diplomat also called for public institutions, the private sector and civil society to be involved, in order to bring institutional expertise closer to society's experience and adapt reforms to real needs. He finally stressed the follow-up of recommendations arising from the reviews and their effective implementation. This position comes after Morocco's PJD proposed, on 26 October, four laws against corruption.
