Tyrese Anthone Pillay, a marketing student, died after going into cardiac arrest while paramedics were treating him following a crash on Higginson Highway, near the Westcliff off-ramp, in Durban. Claude Subramodey, a spokesperson for Amawele Emergency Services, said the young man's vehicle was near the railway line and he was trapped inside.

Emergency responders found that Tyrese Pillay was bleeding heavily from the head and had deep cuts to his face before he went into cardiac arrest, according to Claude Subramodey. His sister Nakisha Pillay said he was returning to their home in Umhlatuzana and wanted to finish his studies and succeed in life, IOL reported.

The family also said they had lost Tyrese's mother when he was two and their father when he was 13. Nakisha Pillay described her brother as an introvert who enjoyed drawing, cooking and watching anime, according to IOL.
