A 31-year-old man was killed and two other people wounded by gunfire on Friday 6 November at about 5.30pm in Strandfontein, near Cape Town, during an attack captured by a surveillance camera, police said, as quoted by IOL. Two gunmen got out of a silver Volkswagen Golf 5 and opened fire on four men gathered in a garage in St Helena Close before pursuing those who fled and driving away in the vehicle.
Strandfontein police have opened an investigation into murder and two attempted murders; the injured were taken to a medical facility. The motive remains to be established. Sandy Schuter-Flowers, chairperson of the local Community Policing Forum, said the shooting occurred as the neighbourhood was preparing for an outdoor movie evening at the park at the corner of Mulberry and Church Way, and that she assisted the victim until emergency services arrived. She urged residents not to spread false information prematurely linking the attack to a gang.
The shooting occurred the same weekend as another armed attack in Cape Town, where four people were killed and a child was injured.
