A preparatory delegation and Somali presidential protection forces have arrived in Dhuusamareeb ahead of the inauguration of Galmudug president Liibaan Axmed Xasan and his deputy Cabdiweli Ibraahim Garyare. Authorities have tightened security, banned unauthorised weapons and introduced vehicle checks, according to Caasimada.

Somali authorities strengthened security in Dhuusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug, on Tuesday ahead of the scheduled Thursday inauguration of the new president of the federal state, Liibaan Axmed Xasan, and his deputy, Cabdiweli Ibraahim Garyare, Caasimada Online reports.

A preliminary delegation from the presidency and the federal government arrived in the city with personnel responsible for protecting President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre. The two federal leaders, as well as the heads of the federal states, are expected at the ceremony, according to Caasimada Online.

Weapons are banned in Dhuusamareeb for forces not assigned to securing the Galmudug administration headquarters. Vehicle checks have also been introduced to monitor movements and prevent risks around the inauguration venue.

The event follows the election of Liibaan Axmed Xasan as head of Galmudug on 22 October and his meeting with the state’s security officials on 24 October. The election of Liibaan Axmed Xasan paved the way for the inauguration, while his meeting with security officials preceded the strengthening of measures in Dhuusamareeb.
