US First Lady Melania Trump will bring representatives of Russia and Ukraine together at the White House on Thursday 5 November 2026 to discuss a truce reached in Oleshky and the Kherson region, according to the White House. She is due to speak at 11am Washington time.
The White House says Melania Trump herself initiated talks between the two warring countries and secured the truce. Oleshky, a city in Ukraine’s Kherson region, is at the centre of fighting and civilian evacuation operations.
The announced meeting comes after the end of the truce in Oleshky, reported on 2 November, and Ukrainian accusations that Russia had strengthened its positions in Oleshky during the truce.
