Fighting pits Front for the Refoundation of the Nation fighters against the DRC’s armed forces, backed by the Wazalendo, in Mahanga and Kazinga, Masisi. FRN spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka reports four civilians killed and 10 injured, while local sources report heavy explosions.

Four civilians were killed and 10 others injured in fighting that has pitted the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN) against the Congolese army, supported by the Wazalendo militias, since the morning of Tuesday 3 November 2026 in Mahanga-centre and Kilongo, in Masisi territory, North Kivu. The provisional toll was given by Lawrence Kanyuka, spokesperson for the FRN led by former President Joseph Kabila, according to Kivu Morning Post.

The clashes have spread to Mahanga and Kazinga, in Masisi, as well as Buhimba, in neighbouring Walikale territory. Lawrence Kanyuka accused Kinshasa’s allied forces of using heavy artillery and ground troops against densely populated areas. Heavy explosions were heard in the area, according to local sources.

The MONUSCO delegation led by its special representative, James Swan, was meeting FRN leaders at the same time. The spokesperson said FRN fighters had been deployed to protect civilians and establish a security perimeter.

The town of Kazinga remains under the control of FRN troops, according to independent sources cited by Kivu Morning Post. The FARDC, the Congolese army, and their allies are positioned in Kitengele, about one kilometre from the centre of Kazinga, despite reports circulated since the weekend announcing that the army had retaken the town.

The fighting extends clashes between the FRN and the FARDC reported the same day in three locations in Masisi. The FARDC and FRN clash in three locations in Masisi.
