The Central African Journalists’ Union (UJCA) raised the alarm on 2 November over a resurgence in threats and pressure targeting media professionals in the Central African Republic. It called on the authorities to strengthen their security, according to Journal de Bangui.
The organisation believes these threats undermine press freedom and citizens’ right to free and independent information. Its warning came during the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, held this year under the theme ‘Threats evolve. Impunity remains’, Journal de Bangui reports.
The warning from the Central African Republic came on the same day as a call from Unesco about the persistent impunity for crimes against journalists.
