Bimbo mayor pictured as rubbish piles up at market

Bimbo mayor Armand-Rock Souabiti appears on large billboards installed across the Central African town alongside President Faustin-Archange Touadéra. Corbeau News Centrafrique contrasts the publicity campaign with the accumulation of rubbish at Bimbo’s public market and criticises the municipality’s priorities.

Bimbo market in the Central African Republic is facing an accumulation of rubbish while billboards featuring the new mayor, Armand-Rock Souabiti, have been installed in the town, Corbeau News Centrafrique reports. The posters also feature President Faustin-Archange Touadéra and describe Souabiti as the “1st Mayor of the 7th Republic of the city of Bimbo”.

The media outlet describes organic waste and plastic packaging piled up beside the road, as well as a muddy road without drainage ditches or pipes. Corbeau News says the advertising spaces are operated by a private company belonging to a former opposition figure who has become close to those in power, and that the town hall uses its services. The media outlet gives no figure for the billboard campaign and reports no response from the mayor.

On 28 October, Bangui launched a community information campaign on Ebola in the Central African capital.
