Médecins sans frontières delivered three months’ supply of essential medicines to about 4,000 residents of three Ukrainian villages near the frontline in Kherson region. The operation was made possible by a temporary truce from 27 October to 1 November, according to the medical organisation.
A temporary truce enabled Médecins sans frontières (MSF) to deliver three months’ supply of essential medicines to three villages in Ukraine’s Kherson region under government control. The organisation made the delivery on 29 October, during a local ceasefire agreed from 27 October to 1 November, according to MSF.
Muzykivka, Petrivka and Bohdanivka have a combined population of about 4,000 and lie no more than 13 kilometres from the frontline. The medicines include painkillers, antibiotics and treatments for high blood pressure, diabetes and ischaemic heart disease. MSF had suspended travel to the villages because of security risks and drone attacks, while continuing remote consultations with local medical staff.
The delivery took place before the end of the truce in Oleshky, after which Ukraine evacuated civilians from Kherson region on 2 November. The day before, 167 civilians had been evacuated from the region, according to Ukrainian authorities.
