The Lagos State Government plans to issue new driving licences within 30 minutes and process renewals in 10 minutes from 2027. The automated system is currently being tested, Rasheed Muri-Okunola, permanent secretary of the agency responsible for motor vehicle administration, announced at a Lagos Ministry of Transportation press briefing, P.M. News Nigeria reports.

Applicants will be able to complete some formalities from home before going to a designated centre for biometric registration and other required procedures. The system is also set to cover vehicle documents and the processing of number plates. The Lagos government has signed a concession agreement with a consultant to automate the agency’s operations, according to Rasheed Muri-Okunola.

On the rail network, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) Managing Director Abimbola Akinajo announced that three additional stations on the Blue Line, at Alakija, Festac and Trade Fair, are expected to open by the end of February 2027. The extension will take the line beyond its current terminus at Mile 2, with the eventual aim of reaching Okokomaiko.

Three additional eight-car trains are also due to join the Red Line fleet in November 2026. They are expected to enable a gradual increase in daily services from nine to 20, Abimbola Akinajo said, according to P.M. News Nigeria.
