Central Equatoria caretaker governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani has ordered an investigation into the alleged repackaging of expired food by H Brothers in Gumbo, near Juba. Flour, biscuits, oil and sugar were allegedly repackaged with altered dates, according to the governor’s office cited by Eye Radio.
The caretaker governor of Central Equatoria, Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, ordered a swift investigation on Sunday into allegations against H Brothers General Trading and Investment Company Limited, suspected of repackaging expired food for resale in Gumbo, in the South Sudanese capital Juba. Bags of flour, biscuits, oil, sugar and other products were allegedly transferred into new packaging bearing altered expiry dates, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
After a joint inspection with the caretaker commissioner of Juba County, Kalisto Lado, Jadalla requested that legal action be initiated by the relevant institutions, including the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards and the security services. He also called on residents to report suspicious food sold in markets and shops.
The investigation comes a day after eight company employees were arrested, accused by Juba County authorities of repackaging expired maize flour. The storage facilities were closed after the operation, according to Eye Radio. A H Brothers official, quoted anonymously by the radio station, disputes this account: he says it was wheat flour that was still fit for consumption and that the products were sorted after being exposed to heat. He says the company had received an inspection certificate from the National Bureau of Standards concerning goods affected by heat.
The eight arrests were reported in the case of the resale of expired flour in Juba, published on 25 October 2026.
