Six young South Sudanese people travelling to the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026 have promised to promote the non-violent resolution of conflicts. The delegation, made up mainly of young people from the Upper Nile region, is due to leave on Monday for a ten-day stay in Senegal, Radio Tamazuj reports.
The trip is being organised with the support of the NGO Nonviolent Peaceforce and funded by the French embassy in Juba. Before their departure, France’s ambassador to South Sudan, Philippe Michel-Kleisbauer, invited the young people to use the international gathering to make their commitment to peace and their country’s development heard.
The Dakar Youth Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from 31 October to 13 November 2026. They will be the first Olympic event held on the African continent.
The ambassador also mentioned a development project along the White Nile, to which the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations is expected to contribute alongside local non-governmental organisations. He called on the young people to help facilitate its implementation with communities and local authorities.
