Senegal’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has postponed the ceremony to hand over the flag to the delegation of 136 athletes competing at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The athletes have already joined their preparation camp in Guéréo, in Thiès region, according to Senenews.

The ceremony to hand over the national flag to Senegal’s delegation for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) has been postponed to a later date. Scheduled for Saturday 24 October in Guéréo under the chairmanship of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, it was cancelled by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, reports Senenews.

The postponement does not alter preparations for the 136 Senegalese representatives gathered at the Guéréo sports complex in Thiès region. They will remain there during their preparations and the competitions, rather than staying in the Olympic village, and will compete in the YOG in 23 disciplines. The competition will take place from 31 October to 13 November in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly, with around 2,700 athletes expected, according to Senenews.

The postponement comes after reports on preparations by several Senegalese delegations, including the 3x3 basketball juniors on 11 October and the four Senegalese beach volleyball representatives on 22 October. Senegal will host the first YOG held on the African continent.
