Ghana’s Minister for Lands, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, says the National Democratic Congress’s internal elections have strengthened the party’s unity and cohesion. The vote was held peacefully ahead of upcoming elections and, he said, demonstrates the NDC’s democratic maturity, 3news reports.
Internal elections in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s governing party, have strengthened the cohesion of its members, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, said. He praised the peaceful conduct of the vote and the high turnout, according to 3news.
After voting, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah said the exercise demonstrated the NDC’s commitment to peace, unity and democracy. He also stressed that such mobilisation was unusual for a party in government and attributed it to maintaining contact with voters.
The minister said party members had come together to choose their leaders within the same political formation and would remain united after the vote. He added that the orderly nature of the poll should strengthen the NDC’s position as the leading political force committed to democracy in Ghana, according to 3news.
The vote follows the announcement on 24 October that the Ghanaian NDC was holding internal elections. The party had also planned to review 54 candidacies on 17 October, according to an article published on 16 October.
