Guinea is creating the National Service for the Packaging of Agricultural Products, tasked with monitoring the quality, traceability and preparation of products for national and international markets. The service will also promote certification, labelling and storage standards, according to the presidential decree read on national television.

Guinea’s president has established by decree the National Service for the Packaging of Agricultural Products (SNCPA), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, according to the decree read on national television on Friday. The new body will oversee the quality of products intended for the Guinean and export markets.

The SNCPA will promote packaging and storage standards, establish traceability systems and issue paid identification tickets. It will also take part in monitoring agricultural products and support their preparation for export, according to the decree.

The service will define technical standards for equipment and packaging and may approve post-harvest facilities. The text also provides for it to build and operate infrastructure and packaging-production units through public-private partnerships.
