The Ghana Football Association is preparing a new strategy to develop women’s football between 2027 and 2031, as its current plan expires on 31 December 2026. The process includes assessing work to date, consultations and setting objectives and resources, according to the Ghana Football Association.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is preparing a new strategy for women’s football for 2027–2031, aimed at building on progress made and accelerating the development of the game, The Ghana Report says. The association is reviewing its current strategy, which expires on 31 December 2026, to assess its results and set new objectives.
The process will include consultations with clubs, commercial partners, government representatives and the media. The GFA will also align the future framework with its institutional objectives and determine the financial resources needed to implement it. The Women’s Football Development Unit, part of the technical directorate, is coordinating the work with FIFA’s women’s football development team.
The 2023–2026 strategy has supported, among other initiatives, the U15 Women’s Regional League, held in all ten regions of Ghana, as well as training for female coaches, referees and administrators. School campaigns have also encouraged girls to play football and pursue careers in refereeing. At club level, the Women’s Premier League now has 20 teams, alongside regional Division One competitions and a Women’s Super Cup.
The association is also finalising a commercial strategy for the Women’s Premier League. It is intended to improve media visibility, attract sponsors, strengthen fan engagement and generate sustainable revenue ahead of the new plan’s launch.
